Veuve Clicquot - La Grand Dame 1995

Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut
Unmistakeable with its signature yellow label, has earned its reputation for being "best in class." The matriarch of the brand, Madame Clicquot (1777-1866) was one of the first businesswomen of the modern era. When her husband died, she took over his small Champagne house, a widow ("veuve") at the age of 27. She made important technological innovations (including the invention of riddling) and led the house to world renown. She is perhaps most famous for sending a secret shipment of her Champagne to Russia in 1814, in defiance of Napoleon's blockade!
Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut (Yellow Label) is gold in color, crisp and dry, with a fine, persistent sparkle. It is a classically styled blend of two-thirds black grapes (Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier) for body, balanced with one-third Chardonnay for elegance. Its complex nose of apple, citrus and caramel is followed by rich flavors of citrus, hazelnut and baked bread, with a crisp, spicy finish.

This La Grand Dame 1995 vintage ... We say, simply marvellous. Light, complex, yet full bodied. Amazing lightness on the pallette, and just a wonderful champagne.
Wine Spectactor ... "A '95 with attitude. Firm, focused and full of biscuit, citrus and hazelnut flavours backed by vivid acidity, though there's enough creaminess to keep everything in line. A good nutty finish."

This was our first trip to Flam's (newly opened) which is located at Bukit Bintang / Bukit Ceylon area, opposite the Green Man. Gianluca (originates from Milan, Italy) was an incredible host, and even served us some exquisite fresh oysters to accompany the champers.

KL is just a city of ironies ... many fabulous places, but no where really suitable to go on particular occassions! KLCC area ... Mandarin Oriental? Nah ... And Maya? Just too quiet!
